This 6,000m2 project consist of the phased redevelopment of Ashton Comprehensive School, including the construction of a new 4,200m2
three storey school building, refurbishment of an existing Georgian Building (which is also a protected structure) and the refurbishment of the existing PE Hall and associated changing rooms. The works also included the demolition of the existing 1970’s single storey main school building upon completion of the new school, demolition of the existing two storey extension to the Georgian Building and the completion of various external works including provision of car parking, playing courts, landscaping and associated site services.
The new school building consists of a piled substructure supporting intermediate floor slabs with a composite panel standing seam roof.
External finishes to the new building include a mixture of self coloured render, brickwork and curtain walling. The main structure of the building is both reinforcement concrete, blockwork and structural steel with extensive mechanical and electrical installations.
The refurbishment works to the Georgian Building included an element of repair and refurbishment of the existing structure including roof timbers, floor joists and associated floor boards, sash windows, some internal doors, joinery works and plaster finishes. Some minor
reconfiguration of rooms were required along with other refurbishment works. The refurbishment of the 1,000m2 Sports Hall included the replacement of the roof finishes and high level roof glazing, provision of a new sports floor, reconfiguration of the existing changing rooms and replacement of the roof finishes to the changing rooms together with other refurbishment works.
