Extension and Refurbishment Works at Ursuline Secondary School,Thurles, Co. Tipperary

Description:

The development carried out in two phases comprised mainly the construction of a new two storey extension. The substructure consists of a mixture of concrete pile caps, strip foundations & solid concrete floor slab. The building structure comprises rendered 425 thick block cavity wall, insitu concrete and timber roof trusses frame with metal standing seam roof. Internal walls are fair faced blockwork. Upper floors are a combination of precast concrete slabs with structural screed and cast insitu concrete. Aluminium windows and internal hardwood doors were provided.

Works to the existing building consisted of extensive refurbishment of the existing 26 classroom school throughout. This comprised decanting and storage of existing fixtures and fittings, strip out of existing finishes and services, asbestos removal in line with Type 3 survey, upgraded mechanical and electrical services, new floor, wall and ceiling finishes, new fire doors and frames and new fitted furniture to selected areas. A new staff room extension was also constructed in this phase along with siteworks including a car & bus set-down area, a vehicular entrance, extensive services installations and diversions, site-development works new paths and pavings around new extension; associated drainage works; flood prevention measures, and utility connections and new outdoor play courts.
